Indec Consulting Melbourne to Hobart - Sked 8 update
by Sam Sabey on 30 Dec 2000
Yoko, the Queen of the Westcoaster has had to anchor for over four hours today to repair rigging
damage damage sustained over the last two days of savage beating into the Southern Ocean. With a
man up the mast, she finally managed to repair the damage to her backstay with parts of her anchor
chain, an ingenious solution to a pretty nasty problem that would force most yachts into retirement.
Many people hold the belief that once venturing down the West Coast you are in no-mans land,
however the experience of Yoko goes to prove that the West Coast is littered with anchorages offering
shelter and protection that are used year round by the intrepid Tassie fishos, These are catalogued in a
report prepared by the ORCV for safety purposes last year, visit the safety section of the ORCV
website, www.orcv.org.au.
Meanwhile, Wild One and Tevake have really started to consolidate their dominance over the fleet,
having done TTC (Turn The Corner) at Berserker (Maatsuyker Island, known for it's berserk conditions),
they are racing to South East Cape before making the dash to South Bruny Island and the Friars before
making for Hobart. Running under fresh South Westerlies
The next group is headed up by Anaconda, however there is little hope for them to catch the leaders,
unless the wind plays some nasty tricks, which it can often do in that part of the world.
The leaders are due in around 17:00 on the 30th of December.
