Second yacht due to finish in the 2000 Telstra Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race

Melbourne maxi yacht Wild Thing has sailed into lighter conditions, frustratingly close to the finish of the Telstra Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The 83-footer is now expected to cross the line at approximately 8.00am, some five hours after line-honours winner, Nicorette, which took the gun at 3.02am.

Wild Thing was due to finish at daybreak this morning but conditions have eased following a front that passed through as Nicorette was crossing Storm Bay, bringing gusts of up to 50 knots and knocking them on their side.

Sitting in third position is the first of the Volvo 60s, illbruck (Germany), expected in mid-morning, followed by TYCO from Bermuda which radioed at Tasman Island just before 6.00am this morning.
