IMS Progressive Results - Sked 4 – 3.00am

by Rob Kothe on 28 Dec 2000
Ninety Seven , the 1993 Sydney to Hobart winner was leading the Telstra Sydney to Hobart Overall.

The 1993 race showed that the Farr 47 performs well in rough seas and she took a lot of time out of her larger competitors in the 30 to 40 knot head winds.

Ninety Seven at 3am was in central Bass Strait, 62 miles north of Flinders Island. She was only two miles behind the larger Ragamuffin, and 3 miles ahead of last years winner Yendys.

Grahame Gibson’s Farr 47 sloop, which has been improving all season and given the right conditions has the potential to win again.

Zeus II, the smallest boat in the fleet is still second placed, benefiting from the head-winds which first affected the front of the fleet. Simarly the Beneteau Shippin Central is likely to slip back on handicap.

Ausmaid was seven miles ahead of Ragamuffin with Bob Robertson’s Sydney 60 Eureka, some 10 miles behind Bumblebee 5.
