Miracle National Championship 2026 at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club - Overall

Day 3 - Monday 10th August

The first race got off to a slow start on Monday morning and there was a hole in the middle of the course, so it paid to go to either side of the course. Nick and Lynn in Queen Bee (4115) got buried at the start and tacked off to the right-hand side for clear air and were just clear at the first mark with the fight for second in the championship between Graham and Helen (4130) and Wayne and Angela (4121) starting behind.

Graham and Helen went left on the next beat and closed up to Queen Bee, however, Nick and Lynn protected the left on the final windward leg to take the win. At the back of the fleet, it was all to play for with Dad and son duo Richard and Ben (3813) tacking directly underneath Ian and Lilly (4098) causing them to alter course leading to some turns for Richard and Ben.

Keeping race for second place alive, Wayne and Angela took second place on the final downwind leg, pipping Graham and Helen for 2nd.

The wind died away during the second race of the day, making for a glacial second beat, with the wind eventually filling in from the left-hand side of the course. Nick and Lynn came second, just ahead of Simon and Ali, having struggled up the second beat, with Mark and Kieran leading the remainder of the race to take the win!

Second in this race secured the championship for Queen Bee, but a sixth place for Wayne and Angela has opened up the fight for second from Helen and Graham. All to play for on the last day.

Day 4 - Tuesday 11th August

Race 1 of the day took three goes to get away with two general recalls and a very keen Miracle fleet with lots of potential to change places between 2nd and 3rd, and then between 4th, 5th and 6th with only a couple of points separating them. Once the fleet finally got away, it was a slow start in low breeze. Securing their best result of the week, Simon and Ali (4050) came in 2nd place, just behind Nick and alternate crew, daughter Indigo (4115). Graham and Helen retained 3rd place despite some place swapping with Wayne and Angela coming in 4th. This wouldn't be enough to secure them the 2nd place overall in the Championships however. Dad and daughter duo Ian and Lilly Brown (4098) secured another excellent result, helping them secure the Bronze fleet win with a 6th place, just behind fellow Delph club members and sisters, Millie and Annabel Hayfield coming in with their second 5th place of the Championship.

Race 2 of the day faced another general recall. On the second time of asking, the fleet got away, but failed to make the windward mark within the prescribed 25 minutes due to lack of wind, and the race was abandoned and the sailors sent ashore to enjoy the sunshine from the breezy beach - go figure?! This allowed Andrew Robinson and Hannah Mumford (4123) to retain the lead in the Silver fleet.

Huge congratulations to Nick and Lynn Smith on their second consecutive nationals win, despite swapping helm and crew configuration!
