After a slow start to the Qualifying Series on Friday, the sailors made up for some of the lost racing today as stronger and more consistent winds allowed three races to be completed on Aarhus Bay.
Saturday's racing went largely according to schedule, with conditions significantly stronger than on the opening day. Winds of around 12 to 15 knots from the west gave the sailors a much better opportunity to race after Friday's long periods of waiting on the water.
Three races were completed for both the men's and women's fleets, bringing the championship back closer to schedule after only one women's race was completed on Friday.
"It was really good to get three races in today after yesterday, but it was a difficult day. The wind was strong and the conditions were tough, so it was challenging out there," said Adrian Domack from Sweden.
For Adrian, the full day of racing was welcome after Friday's delays, even if his own results did not quite live up to his expectations.
"I'm not completely happy with how I sailed today, but there are still plenty of races to go. I'm staying optimistic and looking forward to the next days."
Race Officer Heinzy on the ALFA course was pleased with how the day unfolded after Friday's difficult start to the championship.
"We had a really good day today, with westerly winds around 12 to 15 knots to begin with, increasing throughout the day and reaching up to 23 knots," said Heinzy, Race Officer on the ALFA course.
"The conditions were almost perfect to begin with and then became a little stronger, which gave the sailors a good test. We only had three general recalls, and the local race team made it very easy to get straight into the racing. Everything was really efficient," he added.
"Tomorrow looks similar, with good racing conditions again and possibly a little more wind."
With Saturday's racing completed, the women have now sailed four races in the Qualifying Series, while the men have completed three.
In the women's fleet, defending ILCA 6 Youth World Champion, Hermionie Chichas from Greece leads with 3 points, followed closely by Sienna Wright from Ireland with 4 points and Rebecca Mantel from Israel with 12 points.
In the men's fleet, Lorenzo Ghirotti from Italy has taken the lead with 5 points, followed by Ali Özdemir from Turkey with 6 points and Giovanni Bedoni, also from Italy with 10 points.
