ILCA 6 Youth European Championships and Open European Trophy 2026 in Thessaloniki - Overall

by Agustín Argüelles 19 Jul 13:42 BST 13-18 July 2026

The 2026 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy came to a close on Saturday in Thessaloniki, with a dramatic final day of racing that had a little bit of everything.

Racing was delayed by 30 minutes ashore due to a lack of wind, but once fleets made it out onto the water, the breeze built steadily through the day — starting at just 4 to 5 knots before rising through 8, then 10, and finally topping out at 14 knots for a thrilling finish to the championship. Both scheduled races were completed for all six fleets, bringing the final race total to 12 for the week.

Champions Crowned

In the girls' fleet, Hermione Ghicas GRE claimed the European Championship title on home waters, adding it to her collection as the reigning 2025 ILCA 6 Youth World Champion. The girls' Under-17 European title went to Sofia Berteotti ITA, being her second European title in less than 12 months, after winning the 2025 EurILCA Team Racing Championship, also in Greece.

In the boys' fleet, Jiri Tomes CZE was crowned European Champion, also securing the Under-17 European Championship title. Erik Scheidt BRA topped the boys' Open European Trophy.

A Championship to Remember

EurILCA extends its sincere thanks to the Nautical Athletic Club of Kalamaria Thessaloniki for their outstanding hospitality and organisation throughout the week. It was a wonderful championship, delivering close racing, emerging talent and unforgettable moments on and off the water — one that will be remembered for a long time to come.
