Oliver Heer unveils new IMOCA Embrace The Challenge ahead of The Ocean Race Atlantic

Swiss offshore sailor Oliver Heer has officially unveiled his new IMOCA, Embrace The Challenge, introducing a bold new identity inspired by the weather systems that define life at sea.
More than just the name on the hull, Embrace The Challenge captures the mindset behind Heer's racing philosophy: that performance begins long before the start line — with attitude, resilience, and the willingness to lean into uncertainty.
The concept was shaped by the demanding journey that took Heer and his team to the 2024 Vendée Globe, where overcoming setbacks, adapting under pressure, and focusing only on what could be controlled became central to the campaign's success.
"When we looked back at our previous campaign, it became clear that people strongly associated me with a positive mindset," said Heer. "That's a very authentic reflection of who I am. Even in difficult moments, I'm always looking for opportunities where others might only see adversity.
The name came to us quite naturally. Embrace The Challenge perfectly describes offshore sailing, but it's also a philosophy for everyday life."
A design shaped by the Southern Ocean
The IMOCA's striking new livery draws inspiration from isobars — the pressure lines found on weather charts that map the highs and lows shaping conditions across the oceans.
In offshore racing, weather dictates everything: strategy, speed, positioning, and survival. For sailors pushing through the Southern Ocean, understanding pressure systems is often the difference between success and failure.
"The design comes from a weather system in the Southern Ocean," Heer explained. "For sailors, there's nothing more important than the weather. The lines represent pressure systems, but it's not just about reading isobars — it's about understanding pressure and dealing with pressure. I think it's a very cool design."
100 days to race mode
With just over 100 days remaining until the start of The Ocean Race Atlantic — Heer's first race with the new campaign — the focus now shifts fully to performance on the water.
The coming months will centre around commissioning, testing, and a structured handover programme with the boat's former skipper, Justine Mettraux, helping Heer unlock the potential of the boat as quickly as possible.
"My focus now is solely on sailing," Heer said. "We need to learn the boat and build confidence so we can deliver a strong performance."
For The Ocean Race Atlantic, Heer will be joined by an experienced international crew featuring French Olympic sailor Marie Riou, veteran offshore racer Liz Wardley, and the team's performance analyst Lincoln Dews.
