From 27 January to 1 February, the International 29er Class turns its focus to Hong Kong, where the 2026 29er Asian Championship will be contested as part of Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2026.

With sailors arriving from multiple continents, this championship once again highlights the global reach of the 29er Class and its role in shaping the next generation of elite sailors.

One Week Countdown to Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2026
With just one week to go, excitement is building in Hong Kong as Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2026 prepares to welcome sailors from across the region and beyond. Racing will take place from 27 January to 1 February, with the event incorporating the 2026 29er Asian Championship.

A total of 285 boats and 317 sailors will line up across 11 classes, competing on four racecourses in one of the world's most iconic sailing venues.

A truly international regatta, this year's edition will welcome sailors from 12 countries and regions:

Australia, Chinese Mainland, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong (China), Italy, Japan, Macau (China), Puerto Rico, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

The event is organised by the Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China, in conjunction with the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, and for the 2026 29er Asian Championship, the International 29er Class Association. Racing will be conducted from the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's Middle Island Water Sports Training Centre, located on the south side of Hong Kong Island.

Hong Kong's race areas are internationally renowned and have previously hosted major events including the 2018 29er World Championship, the 2025 29er Asian Championship, the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race Leg 4 Stopover, the 2017 Optimist Asian & Oceania Championship, and the 2015 Etchells World Championship.

Hong Kong Race Week Regatta Chair Lucy Sutro said:

"The strong international turnout this year is truly inspiring and reflects the growing stature of Hong Kong Race Week on the global youth sailing calendar. With sailors from 12 nations and regions competing side by side, the regatta provides an invaluable platform for developing talent and testing skills against top regional competitors. For many athletes, this event is also a crucial stepping stone as they prepare for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. We are proud to support their journey and to showcase Hong Kong as a world-class venue for high-performance sailing."

With a start line packed with top regional competitors and strong youth participation, an exciting week of high-level racing is expected.
