Emirates Team New Zealand sailed for a fourth successive day on the Hauraki Gulf, in their AC40.

Today, they had a nice seabreeze, typical Takapuna conditions, which freshened during the day into a breeze averaging 15kts and gusting to 20kts.

The Kiwis started out around 1.00pm hoisting sails off Narrow Neck Beach, and then took off down the Rangitoto Channel, before tacking across and working their way out into the Hauraki Gulf, and out of sight of the spies.

We picked them up as they returned, and lowered a very small jib off Browns Island (at the eastern end of Course C from the 2021 America's Cup), and set a bigger headsail before doing a series of runs in flat water and now fresh breeze in the lee of Rangitoto Island.

The were no major snafus, that we saw. The only real way to gauge speed is off the chase boat - which can be seen in the background in one sequence. (Sorry about the video quality - just shot on a handheld iPhone.)

The team seems to have re-signed all their major sponsors. A couple of new ones have been spotted.

There is no official reconnaissance undertaken for solo sailing in AC40s. The AC75s can start sailing from January 15, 2026 and are subject to a capped number of sailing days, ostensibly as a cost cap measure.

We will update on the Cup entry situation later in the week, but in the meantime have heard no reason to shift from the story last week saying there will be four teams including the Defender.
