Optiorange 2025 at Real Club Náutico de València - Overall

by Pep Portas 3 Mar 2025 06:46 GMT 27 February - 2 March 2025

Joaquin Acevedo is the new champion of OptiOrange 2025. Acevedo, in addition to the title, wins the Boys' trophy, while Lilou Backes is proclaimed champion in the Girls' and u13, a category in which Pablo López also wins the boy's trophy.

The RCN of Valencia has awarded the trophies of the Optimist Excellence Cup 2024-2025 in which Juan Lleonart has been proclaimed champion.

OptioOrange 2025 brings the curtain down and is already looking ahead to the 2026 edition. The fourth day closed today at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, a day marked by strong winds in the Gulf of Valencia with a sustained intensity of 25 knots and gusts that have reached 32 knots, so the race committee hoisted a postponement on land at 10.30 am with a 1 hour waiting time.

After waiting and seeing that the wind conditions, with a strong sea in the race area were not going to improve, the race committee decided to hoist the postponement on 'A', so the day and the OptiOrange 2025 were concluded.

Four of the twelve races were completed, so the results obtained on Friday and Saturday (Thursday and Sunday were blank) are valid to establish the different podiums, with the absolute champion of this edition being the Peruvian Joaquin Acevedo (Team Happy) who has taken the title. Acevedo closes his participation in Valencia with 1-1-4-2, discarding that fourth place which leaves a result of 4 points.

He was joined on the podium by Catalan Juan Lleonart (CN El Balis) and Frenchwoman Lilou Backes (YCPR - Sopraventus). The top ten was closed with Marta Mansito (RCN Gran Canaria), Charles Ganivet (BN Mare Vela), Paloma Barrera-Dávila (Coconut Grove SC), Jonny Rogers (Royal Lymington YC), Isak Kaplan (KSSS-Sweden), Agnés Hadzi and Damiano Tierno, both from CN El Balís.

As far as the categories are concerned, in the Absolute category, Lleonart and Ganivet have climbed alongside Acevedo. In the women's category, double victory for the French Lilou Backes, while the bronze went to Mansito and the bronze to the American Barrera-Dávila.

As for the U13s, the local Pablo López (RCN Valencia) won, followed by Miguel Echavarri (RCM Santander) and the British Charlie Holland. In the women's category, in addition to Backes, Alejandra Youji Wang Lou (CN Jávea) and the Ukrainian Ahnieshka Mandonich took the podium.

In the Optimist Excellence Cup circuit, which includes the RCN de Valencia, the RCN de Vigo, the RCN de Palma, the CN Puerto Sherry, the RCN Torrevieja and the Club Nàutic Costa Brava - Palamós, the title went to Juan Lleonart, from the CN El Balis, with Alejandro Valero and Charles Gavinet rounding off the podium.

The award ceremony was attended by José Miguel Sánchez, Deputy Director General of the Generalitat Valenciana; Marta Torrado, Deputy Mayor of the Department of Human Progress of the Valencia City Council; Rafel Chirivella, Vice President of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community; Joaquin Valero, National Secretary of AECIO and Marisa Arlandis, President of the RCN of Valencia, who was accompanied by Chema Escudero, vocal of Sailing JD and Jorge Basterra, Captain of the RCNV Optimist fleet.
