GBR sailors ready for the Cadet World Championship

Fourteen teams have been selected for the GBR squad for this year's Cadet World Championships being held in Plymouth from 3 to 10 August.

The event will see teams of young people aged from seven to seventeen, competing over a full week of exciting sailing to be crowned world champion.

The teams faced tough competition across two selector weekends to gain the coveted team selection place for this year's home competition.

The following boats and crew make up the 2024 GBR squad:

The GBR teams will be competing against Cadets from as far as Australia and Argentina, along with European teams from Germany, Belgium, Poland, The Netherlands, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

An impressive 200 sailors are expected to be enjoying the racing in Plymouth Sound, the home of sailing in the UK, across the main and promotional fleets.

Excitement is building for the championship with three new headline sponsors joining the event and recognising the importance of supporting youth sailing. Huge thanks go to all our fantastic sponsors who are ensuring this will be a World Championships to remember.

The Cadet class dinghy's rivals
Some history and statistics, covering the 1950s to the present day When Jack Holt designed the Yachting World Cadet in 1947, it was the only double-handed dinghy for kids to sail that couldn't fit adults on board, and didn't permit adults to race.
