After a pre-start dial-up contest using the pin end mark as an axis, Hamilton Island Wild Oats XI and Andoo Comanche went gybe for gybe downwind in Dent Passage.

Wild Oats XI led south down the west side of Dent Island with Andoo Comanche finally leading her opponent home to the finish line.
