While we are experiencing the highest rainfalls on record on the east coast of Australia and while many in the industry are looking toward the Sydney International Boat Show at the end of this month, one major dealer is organising an alternative venue to show their product line up.
With an impressive array of powerboats and yachts, Jeanneau Australia is going to hold its own boat show this year. They will be on display at The Spit in Sydney. Collectively arranged by two New South Wales dealers, MW Marine and Performance Boating Sales, the event will be held from 27th July to 2nd August. MW Marine is planning a strong showcase of Jeanneau powerboats at the d'Albora Marinas at The Spit. Free transportation will be offered to its attendees back and forth Darling Harbour, which is about a 30 min drive.
Overseas, the international yacht racing community will meet in Malta on November 21-22 for two days of networking, business and an exciting social calendar. Members of the yacht racing community and sailing industry from all over the world can look forward to an exceptional edition of the Yacht Racing Forum at the Hotel Intercontinental. Registration is open for the leading annual conference. Organised by MaxComm and hosted by Yachting Malta, the event will reassemble the sports' key personalities from all over the world for two days of conferences and debates.
Also overseas, Emirates Team New Zealand confirmed today that the team has signed a lease of the former INEOS Britannia team base on Wynyard Point from Auckland Council and intends to have moved in by the end of September this year. Emirates Team New Zealand said it had always been the intention to move its central operations to a more permanent site in Auckland with greater certainty of length of tenure for the team and a suitable tenancy agreement based on commercial rental.
"We are really happy to now have a lease agreed with Auckland Council to relocate to the INEOS base on Wynyard Point, formerly the location of the vast tank farm which was cleared thanks to the 36th America's Cup," said Emirates Team New Zealand COO Kevin Shoebridge.
And from Hong Kong, the Lantau Yacht Club (LYC) endeavours to provide the highest level of service with a premium and hassle-free yachting lifestyle to members and guests. They are pleased that three leading yacht service providers - Lodestone Yachts, Marine Service Asia and NextWave Yachting - are now stationing at LYC's service yard to provide yacht care, maintenance and yacht management services, among others.
Adjacent to the Marina, LYC Service Yard is a one-stop service area where boating needs are addressed. The service area is equipped with travel lift and forklift for haul-out services, with hardstand, dry stack and storage lockers available to provide regular maintenance work or storage. The yard is also supported by a diesel fuel gas station nearby. LYC hopes to strengthen its service offerings to make the sailing experience easy-peasy for all yachting aficionados.
From the fishing side of the industry, fishos will be pleased to hear the latest news from Alvey. Facing all the predicaments that businesses faced through Covid they were at the point of closing the doors. However, the community responded strongly. After the original announcement in late May, Alvey have been inundated with messages and emails of best wishes, and literally overwhelmed with orders. They are humbled by the support and loyalty from all of their retailers and customers, and have made the decision that as long as they can manufacture components, they will supply every order placed, and advise accordingly to the contrary.
Further to this, whilst they are exploring every opportunity to keep the Alvey Brand alive, and investigating other manufacturing processes and partners, they would appreciate your patience as they are getting all orders out on a skeleton staff, and will be in contact if orders cannot be supplied, but they are committed to satisfying as many orders as possible before ceasing manufacturing at Carole Park.
RIBs are a vital addition to the range of marine craft available to be used across a whole spectrum of marine use. Editor John Curnow has written around the Italian Lomac GT 8.5 imported into Australia by Flagstaff Marine: "There's just something about RIBs. Useful and practical on the whole, and inherently safe, most of them are very stable and predominantly dry. After that, however, they diverge quite significantly, and we're not just talking about overall quality, either. Alas, it is more about type, form, and functionality. Very swiftly, RIBs either evoke feelings of a lusty 4WD, or make you feel like you're about to set your lap time at the infamous Nordschleife. They really are poles apart when it comes to that..."
