Starting in May, the Beyond the Bay program is designed for those boat owners and crew who want to extend their sailing experience to the offshore environment.
"A transformative experience"
is how Glenn Fitzgerald, skipper of Summer's Lease' described the program, lifting his crew's knowledge and capability to enable them successfully compete in offshore races and prepare for this year's Hamilton Island race week.
Glenn's story is typical of many people who have undertaken the Beyond the Bay program. Already a boat owner with considerable bay sailing experience under his belt, Glenn was keen to start racing offshore and build the skills necessary for long-distance ocean cruising. He and his crew participated in the 2018 program, and have since competed in two Kind Island races, the Devonport Rudder's Cup, the Apollo Bay race and several Coastal Sprints.
"A key benefit of the Beyond the Bay program was the confidence boost it provided to my crew through developing a deeper understanding and awareness of the conditions and planning needed to successfully venture offshore", said Glenn.
