Dangerous conditions are building on northern parts of the coast on Sunday and Monday with large and powerful surf conditions hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.
A slow-moving high over the Tasman is extending a ridge towards northeastern NSW. Meanwhile a category 2 tropical cyclone (Seth) off the northern QLD coast is heading south and expected to reach the northern Tasman Sea by Sunday before transitioning to an ex-tropical cyclone, then meanders off the far north coast of NSW while weakening through the first half of the new week. This may affect northern NSW coastal waters with large and powerful waves and hazardous surf conditions on Sunday and early new week.
On Sunday on the Byron and Coffs coasts there will be seas of 1.5 m and easterly swells of 2.5 m.
On Monday on Byron, Coffs, Macquarie, Hunter coasts there will be seas of up to 4 m in the north, (a bit less in the southern parts) and 3 m easterly swells with a bit of north easterly at times.
