The first official act of the Melges 32 World League 2020 has started in Villasimius, thanks to the joint organization of Melges Europe, Marina and Lega Navale di Villasimius.

The debut involved the fleet in a long day of racing, which began late in the afternoon and ended only at sunset: the Race Committee, excellently directed by Maria Torrijo, had in fact to wait a long time for the breeze to stabilize, which was late today to enter, putting sailors to the test with light and sometimes unsteady conditions, drastically different from those expected for the upcoming days, for which the arrival of an intense Mistral is forecasted.

The first bullet of the season goes to the reigning World Champions aboard La Pericolosa, who next week will have to defend the title won last year in Valencia, followed on the finish line by Fra Martina di Edoardo and Vanni Pavesio and by Donino by Luigi Giannattasio, both returning to the Melges 32 fleet in 2020.

The second regatta, characterized by a gradually decreasing light wind, saw the ranking change several times, leading to the success of Martin Reintjes' Caipirinha, followed by the Norwegian Wilma of Fritz Homann and G-Spot of Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio.

At the end of day 1, the ranking is compact, with La Pericolosa leading the group (5 points), followed by Caipirinha (7 points) and Wilma (10 points), in turn tied with Homanit, who also dominates the Corinthian division. Andrea Lacorte's Vitamina closes the top-five with 11 points in total.

The racing of the first leg of the Melges 32 World League will resume tomorrow: the Race Committee intends to call the fleet on the water in the middle of the morning, trying to reinforce the series of races started today with three further regattas, before the announced Mistral makes the conditions too much complicated to race.
