We have officially reached the final countdown to the 31st New England 100 Regatta. With thirty entries planning on competing, we could not be more excited for the August 15th and 16th event. With over thirty years of history, the event continues to promise to be one of the most exciting tests of sailing, skill, endurance and speed accessible on the East Coast. This year is no different, offering a complete exploration of the Narragansett Bay Area.
The New England 100 Regatta has not only adapted itself to run as safely and efficiently as possible according to Covid-19 protocols, but continues to evolve to the interest of its competitors. "The push for more athletic sailing seems to be on the rise again. We see lots of interest around the US," says Chris Bulger. "Particularly in this area, there is a growing desire for high-speed, high-performance sailing. That is in some ways brought about by the advent of foiling and very high performance boats."
This year's event, held in memory of Sandra Tartaglino, seeks to capture the same fierce competitiveness and athleticism that Sandra exemplified as both a competitor and event chair. A passionate proponent of catching the next wave of competitive sailing, Sandra has heavily influenced the way the New England 100 regatta has and will continue to operate. Bulger describes, "Sandra loved this event. The 100 was Sandra's baby. She wanted to capture this energy around athletic high performance sailing, and we are continuing to do that in her honor."
This year's event presents a rebirth and reenergizing that will take this regatta to the next level. At its core the New England 100 is about sailing and the people who love sailing. We sail for Sandra: in memory and in celebration.
Due to Covid restrictions- there will be social events - competitors will be given a hearty snack after racing and are asked to eat while maintaining social distancing in the boat park.
