The Farr 40 Australian Class is excited to publish the 2020/21 series schedule, including new dates for the Pre Worlds and Worlds.

Due to Covid-19 and restrictions on large gatherings, it was most unfortunate we had to postpone the 2020 National Championships and World Championships. Fortunately, the situation appears to be improving in relation to travel restrictions and social gatherings and we are confident this season will surge ahead as planned.

We are receiving positive communications with our international teams, whom at this stage, are still very much planning to participate.  It is anticipated we could have 18 boats for the Worlds with teams from the US, Germany, Mexico and Uruguay. Thank you to each and every one of our owners and crew in Australia and abroad for your support and commitment to our wonderful Class.

The Class will be supporting all of our yacht clubs this season with the addition of the newly renovated Cruising Yacht Club of Australia as host club for the postponed 2020 Nationals, Pre Worlds and World Championships.

We have locked in a great calendar of racing, coupled with a first class onshore social itinerary and I look forward to seeing you back on the water or spectating from the foreshores in September!

Its not often we introduce two new teams to the Class! I would like to extend a very warm welcome to David Urry, owner of Azzurra (formerly Nutcracker), Brent Lawson and Patrick Delany, Co-owners of Bluetack (previously Viva La Vida). We are absolutely thrilled to have two more teams in the Class, increasing the local fleet to 12 boats.

New Owner Profiles

David Urry

David Urry, Azzurra

Name: David Urry
Nickname: D"
Occupation: Company Director State Swim Schools Australia, Alsare Barossa Valley Vineyards. Boat: Farr 40 One Design AZZURRA
Tactician: Sandy Higgins
Club: Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia
Farr 40 goal this season: To survive my return to Farr 40 OD after a 15 year break from sailboat racing!
Why Farr 40: Most enjoyable sailing ever from 2000 to 2006, love one design concept.
Most embarrassing sailing moment: Mmmm, too embarrassing to tell other than a cruising boat incident in Queensland that is still the subject of a Youtube most watched sailing incident.
Best sailing experience: Sailing Farr 40 Worlds in Sydney 2005, with 29 yacht fleet and many of Worlds great sailors on board yachts from USA, Europe and New Zealand.

Patrick Delany and Brent Lawson

Patrick Delany and Brent Lawson, Bluetack

Name:Patrick Delany/Brent Lawson
Occupation: Media/Waste Recycling
Boat:
BLUETACK
Fleet:Sydney, NSW
Club: MHYC, Sydney
Farr 40 goal this season: Sailing with mates in Corinthian and not come last in every race.
Why Farr 40: We campaigned an Adams 10 (POWDERHULK) together over the last 6 years, going from dead last in club races to winning with a team that has largely stuck together through thick and thin for the past 4 years. Farr 40 seemed a very clear step up challenge.
Most embarrassing sailing moment: Having the rudder snap on a shy run and then uncontrollably round up and hit the adjacent boat when the other boat could clearly see a tiller in hand.
Best sailing experience: First time winning a race in the Adams 10 Nationals.

I look forward to catching up with Farr 40 Owners at the Season Launch being held Friday, 18 September 2020 at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.

We have exceeded our expectations in relation to participation for this season and I am looking forward to seeing you all back on the water in three short months.

Rob Pitts,
Farr 40 Australia President
