Frensham Pond SC Esailing Club Championship

by Megan Pascoe 26 Apr 2020 08:41 BST 24 April 2020

Frensham Pond SC held its first club championships on Friday night. Qualification was tight across 5 fleets to narrow it down to 20 boats. As 7pm approached the discussions turned to whether anyone would beat the youths but some were more concerned that we were starting right on wine time.

Race 1 started with Andy Shorrock in his N12 N3054 Aces High getting the best start but it was Sam Goult in Aeolus 1002 and Tom Walker in Tomaz who led the fleet. Sean Nee was showing he had been practicing in 3rd. James Woosnam in Woosy was having his best race of the series finishing in 5th. Sadly we lost a few to internet failures and we lost Tristan Alheid for the series but I'm sure he will do well in the Tera series where he is currently inside the top 3.

Race 2 saw Finspeed sailed by Finlay Lomas-Clarke lead from the first mark to the end. Sean was nicely positioned in second. Ed White in Gentle Temptress reconnected after dropping out of the first race finishing in 3rd. Pink and Stormy sailed by Megan Pascoe and AeroAquaholic sailed by Iain Soars moved their battle from mid fleet in race one to 4th and 5th in race 2.

Race 3 saw Sam resume at the front with Iain in second. Even if his did tack on son Mark in Marsoa2459 up the first beat. All is fair in love and war. Richard Harding in RichandPoor had an amazing last run gaining 4 places. His red boat just disappeared into the distance but it was David Innes in FloFlo1 who got the max boat speed.

Going into the 4th race it was tight at the top between Sam and Sean with either still being able to win. It was Harry Kennington in HarryK had the best start and a big right shift split the fleet. Ralph Neville finally got some clear air and won the race. Kat Gilbert in Naterjack also got the first beat right and staying out of trouble finished second. Ben Goult bettered his fourth in the first race with a 3rd in the last race. With Sean in 7th and Sam in 12th both taking their discards Sam won on count back.

Thanks to Ben, Sam and Martin Goult for running the racing and the results. It was great to have the whole club together on the water again and all to be able to race as one fleet. To be put on an equal level no matter what boat you own in real life. All our series are continuing and the model yacht group have started playing as well.

Overall Results: (top six)

1st Aeolus 1002, Sam Goult 8pts
2nd Seannee, Sean Nee 8pts
3rd tomaz, Tom Walker 11pts
4th FPSC, Ben Goult 15pts
5th Aeroaquaholic, Iain Soars 16pts
6th ralphneville, Ralph Neville 17pts

Frensham Frenzy 2024
Even light winds at Frensham fry brains I don't think you could say that this year's Frensham Frenzy was frenzied, but even light winds at Frensham fry brains. The forecast wasn't looking good but in true Frensham style everyone rigged and chose their boats for the conditions. Posted on 4 Mar

Forecast may have kept some away from NSCA Southern Area Series event The weather forecast of very light to non-existent winds from an indeterminate direction may have been a factor in reducing the number of visitors but 16 sailors from the home fleet enjoyed pleasant sunny and warm conditions.
