Ten Tempests entered for the Northerns, enjoying five long, closely fought races in demanding conditions as part of Ullswater Regatta.
The Regatta started on Saturday in moderate gusting southerly winds. By race two the wind had freshened and it increased in strength as the weekend went on with the final races of the event held in demanding winds with gusts of more than 25mph.
Race one was won by Dave Giles of Ullswater in a borrowed boat and sailing with a novice crew, his son Tom. Mike Adams of UYC crewed by his son Paul were second. The wind freshened by race two and the winners were Mike and Paul Adams with fellow club members Ian Modral and Robin Higgens second.
In even stronger wind on Sunday, Ian Modral and Robin Higgens of Ullswater made the most of the exciting conditions and won the first two races of the day. Second places were taken by Graham Donkin and David Lyons in race three and Dave and Tom Giles in race four.
The Giles team won the last race but a second by Ian Modral second was enough to win the championship and take home the legendary Northern Rock Trophy. Dave and Tom Giles were second overall and Mike and Paul Adams third.
Overall Results:
1. Ian Modral and Robin Higgens, 1114, UYC, 6pts
2. Dave and Tom Giles, 1111, UYC, 9pts
3. Mike and Paul Adam, 1070, UYC, 10pts
