A very short ranking at Melges 20 Russian Cup

The Russian cup, a two days Melges 20 regatta preceding the much awaited Melges 20 European Championship, started today in Malcesine: the event of this weekend is in fact for most of the crews the last warm up before the European Championship that is going to take place on the same race course from the 10th to the 14th of September.

A very short ranking, with seven teams grouped in a margin of five points, is the outcome of the races from today (two races completed, one with wind blowing from the North and one from the South). The results from today confirm once again the great evenness of the Melges 20 fleet.

The top of the ranking is currently occupied by Pavel Grachev's Meduza (9 points, winner of the first race of the day). Meduza precedes on the equals the compatriot Russontrans (4-5) and the reigning Melges 20 European Championship, Russian Bogatyrs by Igor Rytov (12-1), who is on the equals with the Italian veteran Camay by Lauro Bonora (5-7). Camay breaks the reign of the Russian fleet, preceding by only one point Alex Team by Alexander Miohaylik.

The Melges 20 Russian Cup will resume tomorrow, with a day of racing that will define the new Russian Champion and the winner of the Open Title.

All the Melges World League european events are supported by: Helly Hansen, North Sails, Tiirenia, Quantum Sails, Garmin Marine, La Thuile, Rocket Performance, Revi Trento Doc, Loison Pasticceri dal 1938, Rigoni di Asiago, Dai Dai, Norda, XPouf, Le Formiche di Fabio Vettori, boutique hotel Rifugio Azul (Minorca) e Rifugio hotel Lilla (La Thuile) and One Ocean; the events can also count on the support offered by Team Partners UYN (thanks to Brontolo and G3Bau Sailing Team), l'Enoteca e Camarca Caffè (thanks to Fra Martina Sailing Team).

Learn to love sailing in heavy air
If sailing in breeze isn't your strong suit, you are not alone When I was about ten years old I starting racing sailboats on Cape Cod and the sound of the wind whistling overnight through the pine trees outside my bedroom would make it hard to sleep.
