2019 Youth Match Racing World Championship at Gubernskiy Yacht Club - Day 4

by Natalia Saltanova 17 Aug 2019 16:19 BST 12-17 August 2019

The fourth day of the racing on the August, 16, started with a dead calm but in the afternoon a light breeze started cutting the aquatory of the Verkh-Isetsky pond where the Youth Match Racing World Championship takes place, and later wavelets covered it in full.

"The minimal wind around 4-5 knots started blowing," told us Veniamin Gusev, an umpire. "That was the wind we needed to have the racing started. For the moment one third of the second Round Robin races is held. Tomorrow is the last day of the event and what the wind will offer (strength&steadiness) will also decide much."

The American team skipper Jack Parkin shared his impressions: "So far, it's been like long day, lots of waiting around. It's nice that the hotel is right here. It's super easy. We've been waiting while we'll see a little bit more wind. But it hasn't make sailing super well."

The New Zealand team defeated the Championship leader, Team Australia. The skipper Nick Egnot-Johnson expressed his opinion on the results: "It was good to beat the Australian team today, they are our rivals, because we're sailing them a lot from back time. So, good win to have. But we had another race against the Americans where we had a bad start. So, we had a good one and a bad one today. Happy in the end."

The last racing day of the YMRC also depends much from the weather, and the nearest forecast unfortunately promises a dead calm.
