12-17 August 2019
The weather forecast for the 15th of August, third day of the Youth Match Racing World Championship, promised us a dead calm. The wind started blowing suddenly; it threw off a thick fog over the Verkh-Isetsky pond.
The wind force was almost seven knots, and the race committee decided to act quickly and to start the races. But the wind stopped blowing and the first flight was abandoned..
Then after a long wait, the competitors could start racing again at 16:30 (local time). Two flights were then completed, the 25th and the 26th, before the wind came to a dead stop again.
"We were watching with great pleasure how the young sailors sail their yachts", shares her impressions Anna Deyanova, course representative. "Even in pre-start manoeuvring the teams hoist spinnakers, despite the light wind".
"If the crews have an equal amount of points after the finish of this stage, how will the decision who is better be taken?" - was the question, asked to Yana Dobzhitskaya, the scorer of the Championship. She answered that, if the results are equal, the final race between them would determine the winner, that's why it is important to take every chance.
Yana noticed that the rivals could get a chance for revenge. For example, in the first round robin the British team defeated the Polish crew, and when they met each other again, the Polish team won. The same thing happened in the case with the Danish and the Italians. In last race the Italian team took the victory from the Danish by just about 20 cm.
Because of the dead calm the Championship is behind schedule and the racing committee made a decision to begin the races on the 16th of August at 9:30, half an hour earlier.
