The Australian team became the leader after the first racing day of the Youth Match Racing World Championship. The crew won five races out of five. After them comes the British team that lost only one race out of seven. Then comes the Polish crew which lost just one race out of five.
It was a good racing day, - said Anna Deyanova, Course representative. - the wind started from six knots and up to seventeen knots, so we were able to complete twelve flights (three matches each) and two matches of the thirteen flight. All teams behaved professionally, so we can say that they are really strong.
Tom Grimes, skipper of the Australian team
Today it's been really challenging and really shifty and a lot of teams have been struggling to find the shift in every race but we've just been trying to keep it really simple. I think we are doing our best, however all teams at the World Championship are really strong, just exactly as we expected. None of the races was easy. I just really enjoyed racing today, although usually we are sailing in Sydney harbor which is really choppy and we sail different boats. By the way, the boats here are much better than they look in photos, they are very good and well balanced.
Matt Whitfield, skipper of the British crew:
The day was really good. We won all the races except the last one. We just kept it simple, we made sure that we were coming in to the line with full speed, were looking where the wind was going to come from and just sailing fast. It is too early to say which team is the strongest, because all of them are doing their best. I'm really enjoying this competition, sailing is good, plenty of races done, nice wind. And I'm really impressed that Russia differs from what I know. So I'm really enjoying it.
Mateusz Golaszewski, team of Poland:
Today we won four races out of five. It was pretty nice weather conditions. I hope, we will take a good place in the Round-Robin after the first day. I think we should just keep pushing and be focused simply to sail on like we did today.

Second day of the Youth Match Racing World Championship - new leaders
By the end of the second day of the Youth Match Racing World Championship the Australian team stays in the lead but new leaders appeared: Denmark and New Zealand teams are taking second and third places and the Polish team takes the fourth one. The 1st Round Robin is completed meaning each team has raced each other team once.
Flavio Naveira (ARG), Chief umpire
Today was a very long day, but very productive, because we did a lot of racing. We have a lot of different kinds of winds and also rain. The competitors showed a lot of improvement compared to yesterday when it was the first day. Today we finished the first Round Robin and started the second Round Robin. After racing we were invited by the OA to a city tour, so we had some rest. If we have wind, we will continue tomorrow the second Round Robin.
As to the organization - there were the usual things that happen like collisions, damages, but everything was solved quite fast.
Jeppe Borch, skipper of the Danish team
It was quite an exciting day. We beat some of the top teams (the #1 team from yesterday) in a tough race against them. We've just managed to get ahead of them at the finish line but there was a loud commotion going on for sure. My crew members are very emotional and they go from happy to angry very fast... that's just something we have to work on as a team.
The technical team, the Organizers and volunteers had been very helpful and replied really fast every time we needed some help with something because our Russian is not very good.
Igor Tarasiuk, skipper of the Polish team
So today we won four races and lost two, it is not perfect sailing but we are happy about this score, we finished the first round robin in 4th position, it is good. But we will have a lot of races tomorrow, the other teams are very strong, so we will try to do our best.
