Eleven boats turned up for race 8 in the Royal Lymington Nordic Folkboat Saturday series. The weather was beautiful, with warm sunshine and a good sea breeze that had set in by the start, definitely the best race of the season from the weather point of view!
The Race Officer, Paul Stickley, sent the fleet off on a beat to the west towards Mark B (Dunford). Several boats misread the changing tide and over-stood this mark, with Padfoot and Tak making the best calls to lead the fleet round the mark.
There followed a long spinnaker run against the ebbing tide to mark G (Tanners) with several boats making good gains downwind against the tide.
The next leg was a beat back to Mark C (Coltens) and once again, a number of boats misjudged the tide and over-stood allowing boats behind to catch up.
After a short run to Mark E (Folkboats UK) the fleet finished at the River Line with a win to Padfoot, followed by Tak and Mistral, with Bonnie in fourth.
A great course and some wonderful Solent sailing!
