10 Hour Race in support of the Stroke Association, with prizes sponsored by Rooster Sailing

On the hottest day of the year Frensham Pond Sailing Club held their annual and hugely popular 10hr race with 18 teams of sailors, young and old, sailing in different classes against each other, with a changeover pit stop every 50 minutes. It was lovely day with a very gentle variable wind (non-existent at times) at the start building to a brisk but still variable NE breeze during the day.

The 2.4 team had the lead early on when the wind was light but it was really a battle between the Solo team and the RS200 team throughout the day with about 4 minutes (PY corrected times) in the last half of the race between the top two teams. The Solo team managed to maintained its advantage for the vast majority of the race securing first place at the end of 10 hours of racing.

The day saw fabulous food and a social evening with a live band to celebrate the day.

The top 3 winning teams were:

1st Solo John Haine, John Marriott, Adrian Law, assisted for an hour by Meg Pascoe and John McGuinness
2nd RS200 Charlotte, Rebecca & Keith Videlo, with Katrina Gilbert and Jenny Rust
3rd RS100 Ian Gregory, Clive Eplett, Simon Lomas-Clarke, Luke Ansty and Charlotte Videlo

Prizes were also awarded for:

1st Sailability Team (Liberty)
1st Youth Team (RS Tera Sport)
Most improved lap time (RYA Training Course Graduates sailing a GP14)
Best effort to cool off at the end of the race (Simon Lomas-Clark abandoning ship)
Most interesting spinnaker (Laser Pico)

Even light winds at Frensham fry brains I don't think you could say that this year's Frensham Frenzy was frenzied, but even light winds at Frensham fry brains. The forecast wasn't looking good but in true Frensham style everyone rigged and chose their boats for the conditions. Posted on 4 Mar
