Notts County Sailing Club Junior Open

by David Eberlin 8 Jun 2019 22:30 BST 8 June 2019

The Notts County SC Junior Open is part of the RYA Midlands Youth Series started this year, there are three more events to go at Staunton, Rutland and Bartley, there have been events at Chase & Ogston over the last few weeks.

The third race in the series was at Notts County on 8th June. There was a great turnout of 17 boats including visitors from Bartley SC. Thanks to Paintcraft & Rooster for prizes. The event also raised £40 for the John Merricks Trust.

The morning saw some gusty conditions with force 5 to 6 gusts. Whilst there were plenty of spills 9 finishing in some challenging conditions which would have tested most of the adults. The wind moderated for the afternoon though many had had enough with the mornings wind.

The under 19s and overall winner saw Harrison Allen win every race with Megan Harriman second both from Bartley Sailing Club in Laser 4.7s. Third under 19 was Martha Christensen in a Topper from Notts County SC.

The under 13 saw Notts County's Raife Pigott win in a Topper with Cillian Dyne second in at Optimist and Samantha Mason in a Topper third all from Notts County SC.

Duncan Monaghan the Junior rep was tasked with not only giving a speech but presenting the prizes after his hard work organising the event (with help from his gather and Tim Cripps). Spot prizes included Cecily Webb who completed all four races, and Mathew Gunn, Charlie Dudill and Arthur Quinn and Eloise Davie all of whom either completed a race or went out.

Thanks to all who helped organise the meeting, and it was a shame the weather was so wild, putting off many potential competitors, but well done to anyone who completed the race.
