For Jersey's sailing community, the arrival of spring heralds the approach of the 'Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club Spring Regatta'. Held annually, this is the first major multi-class event in the Island's sailing calendar. Scheduled for the weekend of 11th and 12th May, the Regatta will be held both in and off the beautiful arena of St Aubin's Bay.
The Regatta is open to all and promises a weekend of fun and competitive racing for competitors of all ages in cruiser/racer, sportsboat, dayboat, dinghy and the sport catamaran classes whilst providing a great opportunity for visiting boats to join in this sailing jamboree.
Indeed, the organisers are anticipating a good attendance from regular and new attendees from the sister islands, France and the UK. Club Commodore Richard Hall said that the RCIYC was proud to be sponsoring this prestigious event and was looking forward to providing the Club's traditionally warm welcome to all over the course of the Regatta.
There is no doubt that competition will be stiff across the board, irrespective of class. Two back-to-back races are scheduled each day for the cruiser/racer, sportsboat and dayboat classes whilst the dinghy and sport catamaran classes will have three. The event also plays a significant role in the Club's 2019 Inshore Championship for the IRC cruiser/racer classes.
Ashore, whilst enjoying the conviviality and camaraderie to be found in the Club, competitors will have a briefing on the Thursday evening, Regatta supper on Saturday and a reception, prize-giving and supper to close the event on Sunday.
The Notice of Race, including the entry form, and sailing instructions are available from the Club and on www.rciyc.je. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 7th May.
