Specsavers Easter Regatta at Keyhaven Yacht Club

by Sarah Desjonqueres 27 Apr 2019 08:00 BST 19-22 April 2019

Keyhaven Yacht Club enjoyed a brilliant turnout for their Specsavers sponsored Easter Regatta last weekend with nearly 40 boats taking part.

Contested over 4 days and 8 races, and in some pretty sublime, albeit windless conditions, the event was dominated by Ian Sanderson in his Hadron and John Chaundry in his LR Scow from the off. The combination of predominantly easterly, very light airs and a slight sea state served to challenge all dinghy classes throughout the Regatta, delivering very busy start lines and congested arrivals at the windward marks, which were pretty much witness to the only true tussles on the water.

Over a dozen prizes were presented to the sailors by Neil Constantine-Smith, the Director of Lymington Specsavers with Sanderson and Chaundry taking the top prizes away for their mantlepieces. Despite, the rather limp winds, the cloudless skies kept Keyhaven YC buzzing all weekend including a visit from some very welcome sailors down from Cody SC, a 'virtual sailing club' who own no club house but whose members from as far and wide as Yorkshire, Somerset and Kent tow and camp to sail the coast of the UK.

Next racing will be Spring series race 8 on Sunday 28th April at 16:30.
