19-24 April 2019
Almost deja vu at Airlie Beach today, as the kids arrived to rig their boats a consistent 12-15 knots filled the harbour, the sun came out and the stage was set for another stunning day of sailing.
Gold fleet
The dominating performance from Breanne Wadley continued as she looks harder and harder to beat, a faultless start to the regatta for the talented young lady. The rest of the fleet saw a few mixed results and some of the most compact fleet racing ever. One sailor even managed to leapfrog 12 places at one mark rounding (that's how close the fleet were).
Silver Fleet
Silver Fleet were very impressive as they also completed four races on the water and take their event total up to 7 races. A day full of action saw capsizes, minor breakages and half the fleet sailing the wrong course! Ashton Harris leads the way in the Silver fleet showing his ability to really work the boat, especially in some solid breeze.
Green fleet
The class is standing out not just because of the on water accomplishments, but more so because of what's happening off the water. Daily de-briefing/coaching from some of the best judges out there are giving young sailors a real insight into the different aspects of the sport and sparking lots of questions from the youngsters. As well as teaching them what's legal and what's to much on the race course.
A lay day tomorrow, where a trip to the Great Barrier Reef has been organised before the event resumes on Tuesday.
