Keyhaven Yacht Club Spring Series - Race 3

by Sarah Desjonqueres 2 Apr 2019 06:35 BST 24 March 2019

After a calm start to the series, Sunday's racing blew away the cobwebs as the Keyhaven YC Spring Series continued with some exciting battles this weekend.

The Solent delivered a feisty north easterly force 3-4 for the sailors and witnessed much swapping of race positions as Grisley (Finn) hunted down Sanderson (Hadron H2) on each beat only for Sanderson to take the lead from Grisley on each downwind leg.

After a cracking start, Grisley was first round the windward mark, closely followed in by Moss (Finn) and despite Sanderson's efforts to snatch back the top spot on each reach, Grisley finally held off the Hadron at the last gybe mark and took the win both on the water and after correction.

The choppy conditions however proved a little challenging for several Laser sailors who took their first swim of the year, sending a couple back to the Clubhouse early to warm up, with only Langley (Laser) and Edwards/Turner (Scow) managing to stay upright throughout.

In the end, with only seconds separating them, the top three places after correction went to Grisley in 1st, Moss 2nd and Sanderson in 3rd. Spring series continues Sunday 7th April at 11:00.
