The weekend of 22nd/23rd September saw seven participants converge on Ripon SC for a RYA Race Coach Level 2 Award. The club played host to Laurie Macdonald from the RYA for the second time, who delivered another fun and thought provoking course following her first visit last year.
The course covered a wide range of topics and learning points and saw all seven candidates leading sessions on land and on the water under Lauries watchful eye.
Ellie Clark, course participant said, "The course this weekend was a real eye opener for me, it was great to have an opportunity to learn from someone as experienced as Laurie as well as learn from the different experiences of the sailors on the course - I can't wait to get out and use the skills that this weekend has taught me."
Laurie added, "Ripon SC is an amazing place, full of energy and enthusiasm. The members are working hard as a team to create lots of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in racing and training at the club. It was lovely to be able to coach at Ripon again following my first visit last year I hope to be able to return soon to deliver more sessions."
Ripon is delighted to have such a wide pool of talent, and the addition of these new race coaches to our club, along with the previous cohort of six, will mean we can deliver more of the high class training we are known for and further develop the skills of our own club members.
