It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.
The RYA is seeking to appoint a Racing Services Manager to lead, manage and provide a strategic oversight to the work of the Racing Services Team. The team consists of 8 RYA employees whose differing remits cover three main areas; (1) Regulatory & Technical; (2) Yachting Keelboats, Offshore and Universities Racing; and (3) Events.
As the Racing Services Manager your responsibilities would include;
- Working with the Director of Racing to set, deliver and report on the strategic and operational plans & budgets of the Racing Services Team.
- Creating strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including volunteers and committees, ensuring regular dialogue is maintained in order to promote a quality service and efficient use of time.
- Being a subject matter expert in relation to relevant legislation, rules and regulations, whether set by the MCA, World Sailing, or other body. Ensuring the Racing Services team remains compliant at all times, providing advice and support to other stakeholders where necessary.
- Representing and negotiating on technical legislation, standards and other regulations at National and International level, in conjunction with the RYA's Cruising Manager.
- Leading the overall operations as an MCA agent for the Certifying Authority of Measurement and Tonnage, with the support of the Technical Manager.
- Working with the Keelboat Development Manager to develop initiatives and programmes aimed at attracting and developing new keelboat sailors. Continually reviewing ensuring initiatives and programmes remain fit for purpose and adapt to changes within the sport.
- Coordinating bids to UK Sport, World Sailing and other relevant Event Organisers with regards to securing key International events and relevant funding.
We are looking for a candidate who has the ability to understand and interpret complex information (i.e. rules, regulations and legislation), with the ability to then be able to communicate this to others in a clear and concise way, as well as someone who is effective in building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You should also have demonstrable experience in effectively negotiating and resolving conflict as well as experience of leading and developing a team. Current knowledge and understanding of World Sailing regulations and committee rules & regulations would be an advantage.
This role requires some travel, both UK and Internationally, as well as frequent out-of-normal-working hours working, for which time off in lieu is allowed, therefore flexibility is also essential.
