There won't be many sailors at the Hempel Sailing World Championships who know the waters better than Anne Marie Rindom.

The Danish Laser Radial sailor has lived in the city for the past six years, and trains where she will be racing this August.

Of course, no two days are ever the same on the water, but this familiarity will be beneficial to Rindom as she competes within a vast fleet all hungry for medals.

On top of that, in her spare time on shore, she is studying Sport Science at Aarhus University, where her thesis involves developing a fixed physical test for Laser sailors.

Rindom's keen focus is unsurprising considering she is an Olympic medallist who has been sailing from the age of five.

Her first Games came in 2012, where she placed 13th aged only 21.

In 2015, she became the women's Laser Radial world champion, beating 2014 winner and then-two-time world champion Marit Bouwmeester to top spot.

In Rio the following year, it was Bouwmeester who took gold, but Rindom ensured she finished on the podium bronze.

And the run-up to this year's championships has been an impressive one for the Dane as she looks to qualify for her third Games.

A gold medal from Round 1 of the World Cup Series 2018 in Gamagori, where she triumphed against overall Series winner Emma Plaaschaert, preceded victory in the 49 Trofeo SAR Princess Sofia in Spain earlier this year.

She will certainly be a top contender on home waters this August as she works towards her dream of an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
