The slow handicap class had a small but competitive fleet of Scows and an RS Feva. The race officer Rob Milledge wisely recognised that with what was likely to be a dying breeze and a building tide, a short course was called for.

The Scows enjoyed a closely fought race with places changing several times. Indeed, each boat in the fleet led at some stage in the race. Peter Willis in Beagle looked to have done enough to win as he rounded the last mark of the course ahead and raced back up the river to the club line. Sue Sutherland and Sarah Unsworth - who have developed a formidable reputation for combining their cocktail making skills with Wednesday evening racing - managed to overhaul him coming up the river and in the end were comfortable winners in their Pink Scow 'Pinky McPinkface'. In second place, by just 8 seconds, was Peter Wills, with Sylvia Pepin 3rd.

Because of the unpredictable wind a short course was set, with boats going round Oakhaven mark and East mark then home. Toby Collyer in an RS700 led the fleet down the river until the Formula 18 catamaran sailed by Dougal Harris took over to lead round the two marks in the Solent and back up the river. A close battle between the RS400s was won my John and Pam Martin who managed second overall on handicap from Toby Collyer first with Mike and June Baker third.
