Twelve Nordic Folkboat lined up on Saturday June 2nd for their annual race to Cowes, the second race in the West Solent Series.
With a light South Westerly breeze, Race Officer James McGill set a beat to mark B (Dunfords) off Pennington. A close tacking contest against the in-coming tide ensued.
On rounding the mark, spinnakers were set for a long run to Cowes. Fortunately the breeze stayed in and the building tide soon had the fleet approaching the finish at Egypt Point to the West of Cowes Green.
With the exception of one late starter, all boats finished within a few minutes of each other. Madelaine took line honours from Crackerjack and The Otter.
The tide turned while the fleet had lunch in Cowes, and with a slight increase in the wind, all enjoyed an exhilarating beat back to Lymington and Yarmouth in bright sunshine.
A very enjoyable day!
