To coin a bit of an over-used phrase it's all about Location, Location, Location. The OK's certainly hope that, having secured a top location in Brixham Yacht Club as hosts for their 2018 National Championships, this delightful venue will attract a big fleet.
Situated on the southern side of Torbay, Brixham and its wonderful scenery and many local attractions will surely be popular with any non-sailing family members leading to a great vacation for everyone. Entry forms and accommodation details can be found on the OK Dinghy British Class Association website. Accommodation is likely to be in high demand so get in early.
The club itself has hosted many National, European and World championship events so is well used to arranging top quality racing while maintaining a friendly atmosphere that will certainly cater for sailors of all abilities whether this is their first or fiftieth Nationals. The club boasts fantastic facilities with both a well-stocked bar and a restaurant offering a wide range of food using local produce.
The championship will be the usual four days of two races per day format and is part of the North Sails Super Series. As an added attraction, the class have organised a 'Training Day' on Wednesday 15th August. This will cover basic tuning shore-side before some high-class coaching on the water. In order to benefit from the £25 discounted entry fee of £100 please get your early entry in before midnight on 16th July.
As always the class ensures that camaraderie is maintained off the water as well as on it. To this end a social event has been planned for each of the three nights. A fish night, the class dinner and a BBQ. The cost of the class dinner will be included in the entry fee for competitors.
As always the class is indebted to many kind sponsors. The title sponsor for the event is Ovington Boats who have ensured that each and every competitor goes away with a memento from the event. Other event sponsors are HD Sails, Birmingham Marine and Ceilidh masts who, through the ever-popular pie and a pint idea are making sure that competitors do not go away hungry and thirsty after each days sailing. North Sails who have kindly donated a discount voucher as the main prize for the season long series have offered the class some additional 'Goodies' as prizes for the Nationals and other events. As an incentive to get entries in early Rain and Sun have donated a rudder bag which will be drawn for on the first evening. All early entrant's names will be put into the hat for this great prize.
