The Cooper/Wigley race team, presented with another evening of unpredictably light and shifty NEly breeze and an ebb tide, sent the fleet boldly out of the river for 2 laps around Colten and marks inshore, reasonably expecting at least one of the legs to provide a tactical beat.
Perversely, the 10 Class 1 starters were treated to close fetches, with and without spinnakers, making for very pleasant but relatively calm and uneventful racing in the evening sunshine. The conditions suited the lightweight flyers Toby Collyer in his Musto Skiff and James and Harry George in their RS500, while the RS400 of Kevin Podger and Heather Chipperfield just pipped Luke and Emma McEwen in their RS800. Only 44 seconds separated the first 4 boats on corrected time in that order, Toby now leading the series comfortably with 3 more races to go.
22 boats started in the Single Handed class in Race 7 of the Wildwind Wednesday evening series at LTSC. With the wind in the north east and a high tide the east side of the river start line, outside the moorings was the favoured place to be. A good start helped to ensure a congestion free pass through the wave barrier, the first four boats got through without incident, but the chasing pack were feeling the squeeze. Once clear of the river the RS Aero 9's led the way, although following the fast handicap boats to the wrong mark was not the way to go. Robby Boyd in his Laser and Stuart Watsons Hadron H2 kept in touch with the leaders, whilst Rob Milledge led the Aero 7's and the chasing pack of others. On corrected time, Robby Boyd took first place, followed by Pete Barton and Liam Willis in Aero 9's and Stuart Watson in fourth place. Rob Milledge was the first Aero 7 and Sarah Richards the first Aero 5.
