Light easterly winds were the order of the day for competitors in Lymington Town SC's Early Summer Series. Fortunately a flood tide meant that all the boats were able to keep moving. Despite the tide trying to push all the fleets over the line there were no premature starters unlike last week's starts, lessons were learned?
In class one, Luke and Emma McEwan in their RS800 were soon out in front on the water but in the light winds ended up being beaten on handicap by the RS400 of Mike and June Baker whilst another RS400 with John and Pam Martin aboard took 3rd place. The handicap results in the classes 2&3 were dominated by the hot Merlin Rocket fleet. Rob and Jan Martin won from Gareth Griffiths with Vicki Lenz, John Cooper and Becci Wigley appeared to have third place in the bag but Nigel and Suzie Brook timed a tack for the line for the line and race officer Nigel Walbank was unable to separate them so awarded a dead heat.
A quick turn round saw the fleets off on a new course for the second race of the day. This time the McEwans built up sufficient lead on the water to win on handicap from the Bakers and John and Pam Martin. In classes 2&3 the spinnaker boats had the advantage in the run against the tide despite a close fetch being incorporated in the course to help the single handers. The Merlin Rockets taking the honours with Rob and Jan Martin winning from Nick Simmons and Fi Mayo with the RS200 of Graham and July Wallis in third.
