In a south-westerly breeze gusting to 22 knots, fifteen XODs came to the starting line for the first Wednesday race to be held this year.
The Race Officer Team of Frances Evans, Wendy Trundle and Derek Tilley led by Alastair Wilson set a course comprising a long beat against the incoming tide up to Hurst buoy followed by a spinnaker run to Colten, a second beat back west to Pennington, a long spinnaker run east to Tanners and a third beat back to the finish at the platform.
XL (Rory Paton) was the early leader and was in front around Hurst followed, after a close battle, by Mersa (Eric Williams), Venus (Nik Froud) and Xoanon (Paul Fisher). XL slowly drew away during the race to win by over 2 minutes, with the next three holding their positions throughout. Diana (Ian Burr) and Mayday (David da Cunha) battled throughout the race, with Diana getting ahead for fifth place on the last leg.
