On Sunday, Middle Harbour Yacht Club held their inaugural Women's Regatta on Sydney Harbour.
I'm the Women's Keelboat Representative at MHYC and involved in arranging this event, so may be a bit biased, but if I do say so myself – the regatta was fantastic! There were 22 entrants across 4 divisions - all female keelboat, female-helm keelboat, Adams 10, and Melges 20 – and representation from 7 different yacht clubs.
For this event, we trialled a new (to us) format, with 2 windward-leeward races and a short passage race on the one day. This seemed to go over well, as it meant that participants were able to get in heaps of sailing while only taking one day out of their weekend. It also meant we could get in enough racing and variety to constitute a mini-regatta, on the one day.
With Hughie providing a warm sunny autumn day, the only other thing we could have asked for was a little more wind!
If you would like to get out on the water for some sunny autumn sailing, here are some of the latest crewing opportunities from around the country.
Available Crewing Positions:
Vertigo – Melbourne, VIC
Summit 35, 10.5m, RYCV
Vertigo is an IRC racer with a good Mark Mills design pedigree and a competitive race record under its previous owner in Sydney.
They have a fairly solid crew, but always interested to meet new keen crew to help fill any gaps. If you're interested to get out on the water with Vertigo, you can get in touch through MySail.

Colusion – Perth, WA
Cole 32, 32 foot, SoPYC
Colusion races in Division 2 at South of Perth Yacht Club, and have a one design championship within their division.
They won the championship a couple of years ago with a full and consistent crew.
Colusion races Saturdays in summer and intend to build a new crew with some new members for next season by sailing and training during the winter.
