The weather for Race 7 of LTSC's Sunday Early Points Series was in marked contrast to the previous week - cold and grey with a gusty and shifting force 4 from the NNE, although with the building ebb tide the offshore wind did mean a flat sea.
With the wind forecast to increase, the race officer set tight courses, 5 laps of windward/leeward for the fast fleet and 4 laps also including a spreader mark for medium. Four of the 6 starters in fast completed the course, with Nigel Walbank leading on the water throughout and also taking first place on corrected time, followed by George Richards in the 29er and then Kevin Podger and Heather Chipperfield in their RS400.
Meanwhile, in the large medium fleet of 22 starters David Gautier in his Contender led on the water during the first lap followed by the Merlin Rocket of John Cooper and Becci Wigley, Alex Hayman and Hannah Buchanan in the Scorpion and Richard Russell and Sylvia Weger in the Tasar.
The order on the water changed during subsequent laps and, with the wind refusing to build as forecast but a rapidly strengthening spring ebb, the course was shortened after 3 laps with Cooper and Wigley taking line honours but subsequently finding themselves fourth on corrected time by only 5 seconds from the 420 in third. Russell and Weger took first place, ahead of the Scorpion in second and then the 420, with 18 finishers in total.
