NEWS AT THE HEART OF MARLOW

WELCOME TO THE CORE 1.1!

Every quarter we will be updating you with Marlow’s news and developments. In this edition we look at the work and projects from Q1 including everything from our work with key sailing partners & associations, to the work we're doing in aerospace, alongside the events we’ve attended so far this year, the new members of our ever expanding global team and the Brand Ambassadors championing Marlow around the world.

LEISURE MARINE | NEWS

BRITISH SAILING TEAM | PARTNERSHIP & AMBASSADORS

At the start of an exciting year for the British Sailing Team in their campaign for Tokyo 2020, we announced the 2018 winners of the Marlow Ropes P3 Quarterly Award - 49er sailors Morgan Peach and Rhos Hawes (bottom left). We supported the US, European and British Sailing Teams at the Miami World Cup Series and in March, our Leisure Marine team went to Palma ahead of the Princess Sofia Trophy to give technical advice to the Marlow rigged sailors (bottom right), which resulted in some fantastic results for our Marlow-rigged athletes.

US SAILING TEAM AMBASSADORS ANNOUNCED

It has been an interesting first quarter for the US Sailing Team and we are delighted to announce US Sailing Team Nacra 17 Sailor Riley Gibbs (top left) and 49er FX ladies Steph Roble and Maggie Shea (top right) as our USA Brand Ambassadors for 2018. We look forward to working with these successful sailors over the next year.

OFFICIAL SUPPLIER TO GOLDEN GLOBE RACE SKIPPER SUSIE GOODALL

This summer we'll be supporting Susie Goodall in her quest to circumnavigate 30,000 miles following in the footsteps of Sir Robin Knox Johnston as one of the competitors in the Golden Globe Race. Susie is the only female and the youngest sailor to compete and is rigging her Rustler 36 boat 'DHL Starlight' with Marlow's non- Dyneema cruiser range in line with race rules. MARLOW RIGGED INNOVATIVE NEW DUTCH WORLD’S YACHT

Sustainabilty and innovative Dutch design are the key ingredients in the first IRC - and ORC- designed racer for the Hague Offshore Sailing World Championship 2018 proudly supported by us. With the launch of the Waarschip W36 Worlds 2018 Edition, a unique project is born and one that Marlow is delighted to be supporting in partnership with their distributor in the Netherlands; On Deck.

2018 SPONSORSHIP OF DUTCH NATIONAL SAILING LEAGUE TEAM EREDIVISIE ZEILEN

This year, Marlow are pleased to announce sponsorship of the Dutch J70 Eredivisie Zeilen (National Sailing League), which is the qualifier for the Sailing Champions League, through their distributor in the Netherlands On Deck. The prestigious competition brings together the most successful National Sailing League clubs competing in three Sailing Champions League events.

NEW TITLE SPONSORSHIP OF RYA WOMEN’S MATCH RACING CHAMPIONSHIP 2018

Our support for the Royal Yachting Association’s racing programmes continues to expand with our title sponsorship of the RYA Women's Match Racing Championship for the next two years.

HOW HAS THE CLIPPER RACE BEEN SO FAR?

In April, Marlow toured the US West coast ahead of our Seattle Sailing Day with the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and our Seattle stockist Fisheries Supply . Seattle is also the home to Marlow ambassador and 'Round the Worlder’ Simon Du Bois onboard Visit Seattle who will also joined us for the Clipper Race sailing day. Earlier in the Race at Leg 6, Quingdao, we caught up with Simon to see how 'the race of his life' had been so far...

WORLD VIEW SPACE EXPLORATION

Our work with World View Space Exploration continues into this year as we provide more rope for their pioneering and innovative stratospheric flight platform.

MARLOW & DYNEEMA GO 'BEYOND BIONIC’ FOR UK CHILDREN'S BBC SHOW

Marlow's technical expertise was put to the test in January when a new CBBC programme 'Beyond Bionic' was filmed, aiming to educate children on the features of particular animals and how this is replicated in the human world. Marlow's rope knowledge was required for the Darwin Bark Spider episode to demonstrate the strength between Nylon, Kevlar and Dyneema fibres.

MARLOW SUPPLIES BEAR GRYLLS SURVIVAL CHALLENGE USA

Marlow have supplied Black Marlow (abseil) and Fast Rope for the Bear Grylls Survival Challenge taking place at the end of April in California, USA. This tough challenge sees competitors fight for survival around a military style course - they needed ropes that would meet a high level of endurance and came to Marlow. MARLOW CELEBRATES 36 YEARS OF PIONEERING FAST ROPES

Marlow Ropes have earned an outstanding reputation for quality and technical innovation for their defence and special forces products around the world. This reputation is born out of pioneering designs that have been tried and tested in the world’s harshest environments and toughest combat zones. Fast Roping was first used in the theatre of operation during the 1982 Falklands War. Find out more here.
