POSH Preview - 7th running of the Paignton Open for Single Handers sponsored by Sailing Chandlery

by Arthur Phillips 29 Apr 2018 14:21 BST 12-13 May 2018

2018 will be the 7th year of Paignton Sailing Club's iconic flagship event for single-handers: POSH (Paignton Open for Single Handers). This is the only BIG single hander event in the south-west for monohull single handers with a PY of 1200 down to how low can you go?!

Last year POSH had 60 boats, and at the time of writing we have 43 boats registered. The event has previously attracted a variety of great classes: Contenders, Musto Skiffs, Lasers, International Canoes, Phantoms, Blazes, D-Ones, RS600s, RS100s, D-zeros, Foiling Moths, Farr 3.7, Streakers and Solos. This year the already registered classes include: OK, RS AERO, LASER RADIAL, BLAZE, RS100, D-ONE, PHANTOM, LASER 4.7, INTERNATIONAL CANOE and for the first time VX EVO and HADRON H2.

POSH will take place this year over the weekend of Sat/Sun 12th/13th May, with three races per day over the two days. An extra incentive to organise your sailing calendar is our early reduced entry free until 5th May – details of which can be found on the PSC website POSH information page. Included in your entry fee is participation in all six of the races and a meal at the Saturday night reception in the clubhouse, the perfect time to catch up on the days racing and check out the results.

Paignton Sailing Club is located in Paignton Harbour on the shores of Tor Bay. We can launch at any state of the tide from the wide beaches of Paignton, and the winds are generally off the land and not excessive. Only steady easterlies generate big waves and add that extra dimension to the sailing. There is easy access to the club with free parking within a few minutes walk and ample reasonably priced accommodation. So if you fancy taking part in this prestigious event then PRE-ENTER NOW via our website to avoid disappointment, payment is on the day!

We are also famous for hosting large regattas including Laser World Qualifiers, Topper National Championships, RS100, Scorpion and Enterprise Nationals Musto Skiffs Nationals, Supernova Nationals and the 18ft. Skiffs. This year we are hosting the B14 Nationals.

If you bring your family down they can enjoy the many attractions of one of the countries top holiday destinations, the English Riviera, with its wonderful scenery and beaches and UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark, while you indulge yourself winning races!

We look forward to seeing you there and if you have any problems or queries please email us at
