On 24th March, 23 Cadets enthusiastically started the Frensham Pond Cadet Open meeting. The home fleet being joined by 5 boats from South Cerney. Sadly the wind did not live up to the occasion and with a maximum of 2-4 mph, conditions were barely sailable. The enthusiasm of the sailors put a little more pressure on RO, Keith Videlo to get some races in.

The first race was sailed in the best conditions and after a couple of postponements to cater for 30 degree wind shifts, the fleet set off. The main fleet comprised boats from the Class's Silver and Gold fleets whilst a Regatta fleet catered for those in their first year of helming.

Katie Yelland with Dom Rowell in 10002, Aeolus, were first to the windward but had been OCS. Following them was Phoebe Bradshaw and Monty Slump in Maniac and Amy Goult crewed by Zac Hardie. Sailing well, Katie pulled out a commanding lead on the water however, to no avail. First place went to Phoebe and Monty followed by Rosie Targett and Sophia Sfaxi in Tantrum with Charlotte Videlo and Tom Shepherd in third.

The second race started in similar conditions but deteriorated. The positions at the first windward were held throughout the race. First Amy Goult with Zac Hardie; Second Rosie Targett with Sophia Sfaxi and third Charlotte Videlo with Tom Shepherd.

Refuelled after lunch, race three proved even more tricky with huge patches of calm on the Pond. Toby Slump and Will Shepherd in Hot Rocks maximised their opportunities and secured their first major win. The final few yards of the race were incredibly tense as Ellie Watling and George Little nearly caught them - in super slowmotion! Third was taken by Yasmin Sfaxi crewed by Ryan Harris.

Wisely the Race Officer decided that three races in such conditions was quite sufficient and the fleet paddled home !

Overall, it was a day for consistency and Rosie Targett with Sophia Sfaxi in Tantrum secured the win with two second places.

The Regatta fleet was fiercely contested with the Goult twins, Ben and Sam vying for the honours. The boys are crewed by the McEwan siblings, Alex and Sarah... so no shortage of sibling rivalry in those households.

It was Sam and Sarah's victory securing two bullets. Ben and Alex were second with Hannah Carruthers crewed by Suita Gupta third and visitors Will Farrant and Will Salmon took fourth.
