P&B and Musto are again teaming up at the RYA Dinghy Show, and through the Musto P&B Race Team for the 2018 season. We spoke to Nick Houchin, International Marketing Manager for Sailing at Musto, and Dave Wade, Commercial Director at P&B, about the partnership and what you can see and try on at the show.
Having worked with P&B in 2017, Musto's Nick Houchin was full of praise for the team, "It's great to work with them as they're such a big name on the UK dinghy scene, and it enables us to showcase some of our hero products on the Musto stand and point customers in the direction of the P&B stand if they're interested in making a purchase, trying kit on and talking to the experts who sail in Musto gear on a weekly basis."
P&B's Dave Wade equally appreciates the partnership, "Working with Musto means we can have the right kit for the right conditions. Whether it be the depths of winter or a scorching summer's day, we're wearing the right clothing."
The latest addition to the Musto Dinghy Range is Flexlite Alumin, which is highly-engineered stretch neoprene with a 4-way stretch backer which Nick describes: "As well as the pant and top, we've now added the longjohn to the range. This is the pinnacle of our dinghy range in the same way Musto's HPX gear is the pinnacle in offshore sailing. It is 20% lighter and stretchier than other neoprenes we have in the range, and now has a fourth layer in the construction, which means a 2.5mm Flexlite Alumin wetsuit will have the warmth of a thicker wetsuit in a lower grade neoprene. The new Alumin Rebound layer, combined with the thermal liner, retains the heat better than ever."
The material advances and thinner layers provide ease of movement and quicker drying for today's dinghy sailors. "Our aim is to allow sailors to go further and push harder by having that freedom of movement and not having to think about the elements," concludes Nick.
The RYA Dinghy Show is the traditional start of the sailing season for many, and Dave Wade thinks it's extremely useful, especially in the age of the internet: "It's great to meet up with customers face-to-face. We have our shop in Northampton where many people drop in, but most of our business is online now. It's great to get people into the new kit, trying things on, and generally chat about sailing!"
Nick backed this up, "The show lets us introduce our kit to the grass roots of the sport and build awareness in the dinghy market. After we redesigned the range in 2017, we've made some great ground and have innovated our products even further for 2018 and are looking forward to engaging and interacting with visitors to the show. We have products for all kinds of sailor and budget, while ensuring that our quality isn't compromised. We have a long history of innovation, all the way back to Keith Musto at Tokyo in 1964, and we're very proud of this reputation."
The Musto P&B Race team aim to get out on the water as much as possible this year, with World, European and National Championships galore.
On high-performance dinghies, Musto also provide the option of removable D30 impact protection pads, which have been developed for industries such as motorsport, the military and high-impact sports such as American football.
Both Musto and P&B are in the Great Hall at the RYA Dinghy Show on 3-4 March, with Musto on stand B60 and P&B on stands A10 and B48.
