Only way to say it - Il Vincitore

by John Curnow 24 Dec 2017 03:22 GMT
At first I just loved the daggerboard peeking up above the wave, then it was the guy in the shrouds shooting the rig or mainsail luff with his phone that really got to me. Awesome © Andrea Francolini

Yes. Absolutely there is only one way to say it. The winner. Andrea Francolini continues to deliver the most splendid images of the complete range of craft assembled for the 2017 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. This time, winning is an absolute theme, for Wizard is the subject matter. As Giacomo she was the second boat home last year and nabbed the coveted overall victory, thereby taking the Tattersall's Trophy in the great race. Previously she was Groupama 4, the Juan Kouyoumdjian penned Volvo Ocean 70 that won the overall standings in the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race, which was the last time these rocket ships got to do a full lap.

Andrea will once again be on board a whirly bird for the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race on December 26, 2017. Should the maxis arrive in daylight, he will no doubt accompany them up the River Derwent, as well...
