The first event of the 2016 NW Senior Traveller Series took place at Delph SC on Tuesday 26th April. Despite a forecast of winds from the Arctic with possible gusts up into the late 20knots and an outside chance of snow, 12 boats took to the water whilst other potential sailors elected to stay in the clubhouse close to the kettle.

For most of the day the forecast proved to be an exaggeration, only in the last race did a 10 minute squall come through bringing hail and snow but even then the wind was manageable.

The twelve boats that took part enjoyed an excellent days sailing. The comfortable winner with three firsts was Philip Barnes from Budworth Sailing Club in his Solo. With two second places Mark Pearce in a Streaker from Burwain S C took second overall, whilst 3rd place went to a tie break between Simon Reddecliffe (Streaker, Delph) and Dave Smith. (Solo, Hollingworth) Simon took 3rd Place on count back.

The first double hander was the Merlin of Jerry Cahill and Ian Beebe from Bolton S C. Full results below.

The next event will be at Burwain SC on the 17th of May when with a gentler warmer forecast we could easily see twice the number of entries. Full details of the series can be found on the RYA North West website.
