RC Laser TT at Poole Radio Yacht Club

by Dave Fowler 6 Mar 2015 10:56 GMT 1 March 2015

Sunshine and perfect westerly wind met the 15 sailors, OD Peter Wiles, adjusted the marks to give us an Olympic course for the first 2 races, and then triangles for the rest of the day, to avoid clashes between the running and beating boats.

Racing started in a variable strength wind with the gust requiring a 'C' sail but in the lulls 'B' was best, during the first half of the morning, with a heavy port bias line leading to tricky starting, with the top guys using 'B' sails there was a turn round with leaders when the gusts hit on the runs allowing the 'C' sails through, it was very tight at the top with some very close racing, and a number of turns being done by all.

It was a great day of sailing, with the sun holding on till the end of play. A big thank you to Poole for their great hospitality.

The next TT is at Ayr Bay on the 21st March.

Course allows boats to be closer than normal and with more possible infringements The Race Team using the wind direction of SE and 8 knots speed set a narrow course with a wing mark to form the triangle for the triangle sausage format. This effectively gave two downwind legs, a reach along the leeward end of the course and two beats. Posted on 27 Feb
