RYA Scottish Area Zones at St Mary’s Loch
Strong fleets of Toppers and Optimists gathered at St Mary’s Loch in the Scottish Borders for the RYA Scottish Junior Area Zones on 4/5 June. The Championship was sponsored by Cleland Volvo and Bosun’s Locker.
There were Regatta fleets as well as the main racing fleets, giving many young sailors a first chance to race.
29 Toppers made up the biggest fleet, and the light winds and rain tested competitors’ skills on both days. After a very close day’s racing on Saturday, Peter Irwin forged ahead with wins in all three Sunday races to win take gold, with Linlithgow clubmate David Kohler second and Cramond’s Callum Calder third.
In Optimists though one sailor took a grip from the first day. Anna Burnett took two wins on the Saturday, and added another three to take a convincing win, with Konrad Weaver second, and James Logan third.
Robin Jarvis (Largs) took the Topper Regatta Fleet, while nine year old Kae Clark (Royal Norrthern) won the Optimist Regatta Fleet.
